CINCINNATI. — The Cincinnati Reds placed Dominican Elly de la Cruz on the 10-day injured list this Monday due to a right hamstring strain, marking the star shortstop’s first stint on the injured list since arriving in the Major Leagues.

To take his place on the active roster, the organization promoted Puerto Rican Edwin Arroyo from Triple-A Louisville, considered the team’s number three prospect and one of the franchise’s most promising young talents.
De la Cruz suffered the discomfort during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, a match in which he left the field after stopping at first base following a hit that seemed destined to be an extra-base hit.

The 24-year-old player had shown optimism after the match, considering that the injury did not seem serious. However, medical evaluations led the Reds to make the decision to place him on the injured list to avoid further complications.
The Dominican’s absence represents a significant loss for Cincinnati. Elly played in the first 58 games of the season and held a streak of 276 consecutive games seeing action.
In the current campaign, the dynamic shortstop is batting for a .280 average with an .855 OPS, in addition to sharing the team’s offensive lead in home runs (12), runs batted in (37), and stolen bases (10).
Given De la Cruz’s temporary departure, the Reds will bet on the young talent of 22-year-old Edwin Arroyo, who has shined this season in Triple-A Louisville.
The Puerto Rican shortstop has a .323 batting average, with a .945 OPS, 11 home runs, and 34 RBIs in 53 games. In addition to his offensive production, Arroyo has been recognized for his solid defense and his remarkable offensive evolution during 2026.
The organization hopes that the prospect can provide defensive stability and offensive energy while De la Cruz completes his recovery.
