Meyer had a difficult start on Monday against the Colorado Rockies, allowing five runs (four earned) and 10 hits in five innings, in a 6-4 loss for the Marlins at loanDepot park. The right-hander has struggled recently, with an ERA of 7.01 in his last seven starts, after a promising start to the season with a 2.10 ERA.
Meyer’s absence opens a vacancy in the rotation right before the start of a three-city road trip, which begins on Monday in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. This could open the door for the return of Dominican Eury Pérez, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Manager Skip McCullough indicated that Pérez, who is making his final rehab start this Tuesday with Jacksonville, could join the rotation during the trip:
“We are going to integrate Eury into the rotation on this tour. We hope everything goes well for him today, that he finishes healthy and pitches well, and then we will decide how many days to give him before his next start.”
