FORT MYERS, Florida.– The Boston Red Sox continued their infield restructuring this Monday, on the eve of the official start of Spring Training, by acquiring infielder Caleb Durbin, a finalist for the 2025 National League Rookie of the Year award, in a six-player trade with the Milwaukee Brewers.

As part of the agreement, Boston also received a
Competitive Balance Round B pick from the 2026 Draft, in addition to infielders
Andruw Monasterio and
Anthony Seigler.

25 years old, recorded an offensive line of
.256/.334/.387 last season, mainly alternating between
third base, shortstop, and second base, which fits with Boston’s bet on
defensive versatility for the 2026 season.

Willson Contreras projected in fixed roles, the second and third base positions are shaping up as areas of rotation. In that scenario, Durbin joins a group that includes
Marcelo Mayer,
Isiah Kiner-Falefa (pending physical exam), and
Romy González, all capable of playing multiple infield positions.
Despite his light build (1.70 meters), Durbin had a notable impact on the Brewers, champions of the National League Central Division in 2025. In
445 at-bats, he hit
11 home runs,
25 doubles, stole
18 bases and accumulated a
bWAR of 2.8, standing out for his control of the strike zone and his offensive consistency.
The main piece sent to Milwaukee is the left-handed
Kyle Harrison, a former high-profile prospect who arrived in Boston in the trade involving
Rafael Devers last June. However, the depth of young starters with contractual control left Harrison without a clear spot on the Opening Day roster. Since his debut in 2023, the pitcher has an ERA of
4.39 in
42 appearances,
37 as a starter.
Venezuelan
Andruw Monasterio,
28 years old, adds additional depth to Boston’s infield. In 2025, he played in
68 games with Milwaukee, batting
.270, with
nine doubles,
four home runs, and
16 RBIs, in addition to playing multiple infield positions and occasionally in the outfield. In Triple-A Nashville, he recorded a batting average of
.250 and an on-base percentage of
.346.
For his part,
Anthony Seigler,
26 years old, arrives as an organizational depth option. In his first season in the Major Leagues, he participated in
34 games with the Brewers. The left-handed hitter and ambidextrous pitcher was originally selected by the
New York Yankees in the first round of the
2018 Draft.
With this move, the Red Sox continue to strengthen their roster with a view to a 2026 season in which the flexibility and depth of the infield will be key.
