Santiago places his trust in Lakins for the third Caribbean Series commitment
Guadalajara, Mexico. – The leader Ramón Santiago expressed full confidence in the right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins, who will be the starting pitcher for the Leones del Escogido, from the Dominican Republic, in Wednesday’s game against the Federales de Chiriquí, from Panama, corresponding to the Caribbean Series 2026.
The Dominican team will seek to extend its undefeated streak to 3-0 in the Caribbean tournament, and Santiago trusts that Lakins can offer a solid outing from the mound.
“We are in a good position, but we must maintain the same intensity. We hope that Lakins gives us a quality performance that helps us keep winning,” said the scarlet leader.
Lakins, 31 years old, is participating in a Caribbean Series for the first time and comes from being a key piece in the conquest of the Lidom championship with the Escogido. In the complete season, including all stages, the right-hander recorded a 5-1 record, 3.02 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.
“I must start the game well and set the tone from the first inning, looking to get outs quickly. If I execute my pitches, attack the strike zone and limit hard contact, everything will be fine,” Lakins said.
The American pitcher is no stranger to Mexican baseball, as during the summer of 2025 he was part of the starting rotation of the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, in the Mexican Baseball League, an experience that gives him additional knowledge of the environment.
As happened in the Round Robin and the Final Series of the Lidom, the current Caribbean champions have shown dominance from the mound in the tournament, leading the collective pitching with 2.50 ERA and a batting average allowed of .234 to their rivals.
The match between the Dominican Republic and Panama will be played this Wednesday at 4:00 PM (Dominican time) at the Pan American Stadium. The Leones will return to action on Thursday, when they face the Tomateros de Culiacán (Green Mexico) at 8:00 PM, with Radhamés Liz announced as the starting pitcher.
