ZAPOPAN, The Caribbean Series experienced one of the most spectacular and offensive games in its history this Wednesday, when the
Leones del Escogido, representatives of the
Dominican Baseball League, defeated the
Federales de Chiriquí, from Panama,
16 runs to 15 in a vibrant match corresponding to the fourth day of the tournament, held at the
Pan American Stadium.

The clash established a
new combined runs record between two teams in the history of the Caribbean tournament. The previous record dated back to
February 6, 1990, when in Miami the
Naranjeros de Hermosillo defeated the
Senadores de San Juan 20-8, for a total of 28 runs.
The marathon game, which lasted for
4 hours and 10 minutes, was decided in the
eighth inning, when the Dominican
Marcos Hernández hit a double with runners on base to drive in the 15th run for the Quisqueyan team. Subsequently,
Gustavo Núñez hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the decisive 16th run.
The offensive was the protagonist throughout the night:
Dominican Republic connected 16 hits, while
Panama shot 18 hits, in a game full of alternatives and emotion until the last out.
With this victory, the Dominicans took a
firm step towards qualifying for the semifinal series, improving their record to
3-0 in the tournament.
The victory went to “E. Montilla”, while “S. González” took the loss. “Jimmy Cordero” was credited with the save.
