Teóscar Hernández appears in trade conversations, although a swap seems unlikely

SANTO DOMINGO. – The name of Dominican outfielder Teóscar Hernández has recently surfaced in trade conversations during the offseason, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal and Patrick Mooney in The Athletic. However, according to the report, a deal for the star hitter does not appear imminent or likely at this time.

Hernández is coming off a solid campaign in which he hit 25 home runs in the regular season and added five more in the postseason, contributing to the Dodgers’ second consecutive championship. His offense, especially in October, continues to be his main selling point for interested teams. However, the outfielder’s defense has raised concerns. His -9 Outs Above Average (OAA) in 2025 placed him among the last in his position, a factor that could influence the valuation of some clubs. Even so, the scarcity of impactful right-handed bats on the market could keep him as an attractive piece for teams that prioritize offensive production. Regarding his contract, Hernández is under an agreement that includes salaries of US$12 million for 2026 and US$14.5 million for 2027, with US$8 million deferred in each year, in addition to a team option for 2028 with a buyout clause. Although complex, the deal is not considered a major obstacle for organizations seeking to add power to the lineup. For now, conversations continue in an exploratory manner, with no indication that the Dodgers are close to finalizing a move.
