Toros achieve third consecutive victory and secure head-to-head series against Leones

LA ROMANA.- With a solid mound performance by José Ureña and a decisive double by Sandber Pimentel, the Toros del Este defeated the Leones del Escogido 5-4 this Saturday in an exciting match held at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium, thus achieving their third consecutive victory and securing the particular series against the capital team.

The key hit came in the eighth inning, when Pimentel, entering as a pinch hitter, connected on a long double down the left field line that allowed Yairo Muñoz to score from first, breaking the tie and putting the final numbers on the scoreboard. With the triumph, the Bulls set their record at 13-11 and extend their lead to two and a half games in second place in the tournament, while the Lions (11-14) add their second consecutive loss.

Starting pitcher José Ureña (0-0, 3.27) pitched five innings of just one run and one hit, gave up two walks and struck out five, although he left without a decision. The Toros’ pitching staff was decisive in limiting the Leones to 3-0 with runners in scoring position and leaving seven men on base, as well as making two outs at the plate that were crucial for the victory.
