SAN FRANCISCO.– Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made the power of his bat felt once again by hitting a two-run home run in the ninth inning, breaking a home run drought that had lasted since June 18, in the Toronto Blue Jays’ resounding 10-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

The Dominican first baseman capped the victory with his hit off Ryan Walker, his first home run in nearly three weeks, to contribute to Toronto’s offensive festival. Immediately after, George Springer also sent the ball out, further extending the visitors’ lead.
The great figure of the match was right-hander Dylan Cease, who was just three outs away from throwing a no-hitter. The starter worked eight perfect innings in terms of hits allowed, but Heliot Ramos opened the ninth inning with a single to center field that put an end to the pitching gem.
Cease (6-4) was pulled after allowing that hit and received a standing ovation from the crowd in San Francisco. The pitcher threw 118 pitches, a career high, and struck out 11 batters to reach 148 on the season, the most in the American League.
Tyler Rogers took care of retiring the last three batters to complete the Toronto shutout.
The Blue Jays’ offense took the lead from the first inning thanks to a grand slam by Japanese player Kazuma Okamoto, who led a five-run rally against starter Logan Webb.

Toronto added two more runs in the eighth inning before Guerrero Jr. and Springer closed out the offensive production with back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning.
With this victory, the Blue Jays completed a dominant series in San Francisco and will travel to face the San Diego Padres, while the Giants will host the Rockies in their next home series.
