MOCA. — Caleb Huffman and rookie Mycheal Henry led the offense for the Héroes de Moca, who defeated the Gigantes Basketball Club 102-91 this Sunday at the Moca 85 sports center, in the continuation of the elimination phase of the Súper Liga LNB.
With the victory, the Heroes improved their record to 12-11 and solidified their hold on sole possession of third place in the standings. The Giants, despite the setback, remain in second place with a 16-7 record.
Huffman led the Moca attack with 21 points and 4 assists, while Henry shined in his debut with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Both commanded an efficient offense that shot 52 percent from the field (32 of 61).
Also contributing to the victory were Kevin Obanor, with 13 points and 5 rebounds; Nargenis Ulloa, with 12 units; and Jeison Valdez, who neared a triple-double with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists, and 5 steals.

For the Gigantes, Luismal Ferreiras recorded a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Francis King Fitzgerald added 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. However, the 18 turnovers by the team from San Francisco de Macorís ended up weighing on the result.
The Heroes set the pace from the start of the game, dominating the first quarter 28-18, thanks to the offensive leadership of Henry and Huffman, who combined for 15 points in that period.
In the second period, the home team extended their lead to 17 points (45-28) after a basket by Obanor with 5:32 on the clock. Although the Giants tried to react, including a three-pointer by Miguel Miranda, they went into halftime down 55-40.
Henry was the standout player of the first half with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Ulloa added 10 units and Huffman contributed 9. For the visitors, Ferreiras accumulated 10 points and 8 rebounds before halftime.
In the third quarter, Moca continued its dominance and managed to take a 22-point lead (80-58) after two free throws by Kevin Núñez with 2:28 left to play. The Gigantes managed to slightly reduce the gap before the end of the period, trailing 83-66.
In the final period, Victor Peña’s team showed greater aggressiveness and managed to close the gap to 13 points (91-78), following a tip-in by Juan Junior Rosario with a little over five minutes on the clock. Later on, a basket by Eddy Mercedes reduced the deficit to nine (96-87) with 1:31 remaining.
However, the Heroes responded at the key moment. Kevin Obanor completed a three-point play that returned the lead to double digits and finished sealing the victory for the team from Moca.
