Knicks survive Spurs’ late rally and take a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals
San Antonio. – The New York Knicks withstood the final pressure from the San Antonio Spurs this Friday and won 105-104 in a dramatic second game of the NBA Finals, moving just two wins away from capturing their first championship since 1973.
The New York franchise came out on top again in Texan territory thanks to a solid collective performance led by the Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns, who contributed 21 points on a high-intensity night at the Frost Bank Center.
The match was decided in the final seconds when French star Victor Wembanyama attempted a buzzer-beater shot that did not find the rim, thus sealing the Knicks’ second consecutive victory in the series.
Wembanyama, despite the loss, led San Antonio offensively with 29 points and kept the Spurs alive until the very last moment of the game.
With the series now moving to Madison Square Garden in New York for games three and four, the Knicks will look to leverage the support of their fans to get even closer to the long-awaited NBA championship title.
The situation is becoming critical for San Antonio, as no team in league history has managed to come back in a Finals series after losing the first two games at home, a fact that increases the pressure on the young roster led by the French phenomenon.
New York, for its part, continues to show defensive strength, offensive depth, and the leadership of its main stars at a key moment in the season, giving its fanbase hope for a crown that has eluded them for more than five decades.
