Suero leads Cañeros’ triumph over Mariners in extra innings

LA ROMANA. – With an outstanding performance by Eusebio Suero and a fierce defense in the closing, the Cañeros del Este defeated the Marineros de Puerto Plata 90-86 in overtime this Sunday, in a game held at the Eleoncio Mercedes Sports Center, corresponding to the National Basketball League.

Suero led the offense with 23 points, in addition to six assists and five rebounds, leading five Cañeros players with double figures. Matt Herasme also contributed with 16 points, Bryan Polanco with 12, Lazar Lugic with 10 and Brayan Martínez, who achieved a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Rafail Lanaras stood out in the distribution with 10 assists and added 13 rebounds. For the Mariners, Emmanuel Omogbo recorded an outstanding performance with 23 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, followed by Luis Feliz with 20 units and eight captures, while Andrés Fulgencio added 16 points and five steals. The match was close from start to finish. In the final quarter, the Mariners managed to get a seven-point lead (69-62), but a 10-2 run by the Cañeros tied the game. In the final seconds, Lugic scored near the basket to tie the score 81-81 and force overtime. In the extra period, the Cañeros’ defense was decisive, completely limiting the rival offense in the final minutes. A three-pointer by Martínez with 2:25 left to play gave the definitive advantage to the Easterners, who knew how to hold it until the final whistle. Following this result, the Cañeros place their mark at 2-4, while the Marineros remain with a record of 2-3.
