Yeison Colomé leads Cañeros’ triumph over Titanes

LA ROMANA.- With 34 points scored, Yeison Colomé led the 102-96 victory of the Cañeros del Este over the Titanes del Sur in a match held on Friday night at the Eleoncio Mercedes sports center, in the continuation of the LNB Super League, in option for the Banreservas Cup. Colomé, who shot for 64 percent from the field (14/22) and 43 in triples (3/7), contributed 6 assists for the Cañeros to reach their seventh victory of the campaign. Despite the victory, the Romanenses couldn’t win the particular series against the Titans, as they fell on May 20th against the blues 87-74. For the Cañeros (7-8), Lazar Lugic also contributed with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Luixander Blanco added 11 points and 4 assists. For the Titans (5-8), Tyree White and Randy Bautista stood out, scoring 17 points each. Jonathan Araujo recorded a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. The Cañeros won a disputed first quarter 29-24, driven by 11 points scored by Colomé and 8 added by Lugic.  In the second quarter, the Titans erased an 8-point deficit (36-28) to take the lead by 2 (43-41), when Ferguson hit a three-pointer with 4:45 left on the clock. However, the Romanians regained control of the game and extended the lead to 7 (54-47) with a basket by Colomé, with 1:54 remaining before halftime, but a tip-in by Stanley Scott, with 7 seconds on the clock, allowed the blues to close the gap and leave the score 56-53 at the end of the first half in favor of the home team. Colomé commanded the offensive attack of the Cañeros in the first 10 minutes of action, scoring 19 points and distributing 4 assists, followed by Lugic, who contributed 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. For the Titans, Ferguson and Williams registered 11 points each, and Araújo added 10 units and 5 rebounds. A Blanco basket put the Romanenses ahead by 12 (74-62), with 5:15 to play, but Xavier Reyes brought the Titans closer by 2 (75-73), after making a free throw after scoring upon receiving a personal foul, with 2:09 remaining, but the Cañeros’ offense and defense did not wait to pull away by 9 (83-74), after a basket by Matthew Herasme, with 4 seconds remaining to end the period. The Titans’ defensive pressure, who were down 16 points in the first part of the fourth, was felt in the last 5:00 minutes of the final quarter and a three-pointer by Araujo put the blues ahead (94-93), with 2:00 minutes remaining, but the physical game played against them, as the Cañeros, from the free throw line, returned to the front.

This Saturday’s Event

The Heroes of Moca will receive the Metros de Santiago at the Moca 85 sports complex for the game to be played at 7:00 p.m., while the Soles del Este will visit the Reales de La Vega at the Fernando Teruel Sports Palace for the match to be played at 7:30 p.m.
