Cuba calls its exclusion from the Caribbean Series “disrespectful” after venue change
Havana.- The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation described its exclusion from the 2026 Caribbean Series as “disrespectful” after the recent change of its venue, which was previously going to be organized by Venezuela and will now be played in Guadalajara (Mexico), from February 1 to 7.
“The change of scenario does not justify Cuba’s non-participation, which, moreover, deserves and demands respectful treatment, especially since it is a situation so sensitive for our sport,” stated the local Federation in a statement published on the social network X.
The Cuban entity pointed out that, although the invitation received to participate in the winter classic “was generated from Venezuela, in its condition as the original venue of this edition, was endorsed by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), governing body of the tournament”.
Likewise, he criticized that “that entity has not held any communication with the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation about such an important decision, which undermines the established commitments and the design approved by our country to assume it”.
The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) announced on Thursday that Guadalajara will host the tournament, after approving the proposal presented by the Mexican Pacific League ARCO, marking the return of the event to the Mexican locality where it was held in 2018.
The decision to change took place after the leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic communicated that they were unable to attend the event in Caracas due to external situations beyond their control.
In reference to the growing tensions between the United States and Venezuela, which have increased in recent months due to the strong military deployment ordered by Washington in the Caribbean.
