Guadalajara (Mexico) (EFE).- The Mexican national team defeated South Korea 1-0 this Thursday in a match for the second round of Group A of the 2026 World Cup played at the Guadalajara Stadium and became the first team to qualify for the round of 32.

Luis Romo scored in the 50th minute after a mistake by Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung Gyu, to decide a hard-fought match with alternating dominance.
Mexico reached six points, three more than Korea, and five above the Czech Republic and South Africa, who drew 1-1 today.
In the closing of Group A, on June 24th, Mexico will face the Czech Republic at the Mexico City Stadium, the legendary Azteca; and Korea will play against South Africa in Monterrey.

Sheinbaum celebrates Mexico’s victory against South Korea at the National Palace
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, celebrated this Thursday the Mexican national team’s 1-0 victory over South Korea in their second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which she followed via broadcast from the National Palace.
«Many congratulations to our National Team. Their triumph fills all of Mexico with pride», noted Sheinbaum in a message on social media.
Sheinbaum accompanied the message with a photograph in which she appears in front of a television raising her arms and wearing a Mexican national team jersey with the number one on the back and the word president.
The image shows that it is at the National Palace and she is accompanied by her husband Jesús María Tarriba.
