The French Football Federation (FFF) has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s reelection as FIFA president in 2027, FFF president Philippe Diallo announced Thursday, according to Reuters.
“The trust placed in the FIFA president has been broken,” Diallo said. The FFF had backed Infantino in late June, when he was the only candidate, but subsequent developments dramatically changed the circumstances. Among them was his failed proposal to sell a stake in FIFA competitions to private investors.
The decision was unanimously approved by the FFF executive committee. Football federations in England and Italy have also withdrawn their support for Infantino.
The election will be held on March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco, with the deadline for candidates to submit their bids set for November 18.
