Jalen Williams suffers serious leg injury as Thunder defeat Clippers

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star guard Jalen Williams was taken off the court on a stretcher after suffering a serious injury to his lower left leg during Sunday night’s 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The injury occurred with 1 minute and 14 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, when Williams drove toward the basket and landed awkwardly after contact with defenders. His left leg gave way, and his foot bent at an unnatural angle as he fell to the floor.

Medical personnel rushed to assist the 25-year-old, while players from both teams reacted with visible shock. Williams’ lower leg was covered with a towel as he received treatment before being placed on a stretcher and wheeled off the court to a standing ovation. He gave fans two thumbs-up as he was taken away.

The game was paused for approximately five minutes before Oklahoma City completed the victory.

Teammates react emotionally

Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander became emotional during his postgame television interview as he spoke about his teammate’s injury.

“I just feel bad for him,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, acknowledging the difficulty of playing without Williams. He added that he believed his teammate would return stronger and said the team would have to keep going until he recovered.

Head coach Mark Daigneault said the team was awaiting further medical information and expected an update on Williams’ condition Monday morning. “We’re not doing great,” he said, describing the team’s reaction to the incident.

No official diagnosis had been announced at the time of the initial reports.

Williams has been an All-Star and an All-NBA selection and played a key role in Oklahoma City’s 2025 NBA championship. He also missed 49 games last season because of multiple injuries, including hamstring problems and recovery from significant surgery on his right wrist.

The Thunder were scheduled to face the Phoenix Suns at home on Monday night.

Williams was not the only Oklahoma City player to leave Sunday’s game with an injury. Guard Cason Wallace exited with left shoulder soreness, while forward Jaylin Williams left with right wrist soreness. Neither returned to the game.
