Every July 2nd, tribute is paid to those social communication professionals dedicated to reporting on the world of sports with the celebration of World Sports Journalists Day. This anniversary, established in 1995, was an initiative of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) during the World Congress in Quebec.
n” “nThe date was chosen in commemoration of the creation of AIPS, which took place on July 2, 1924, in Paris, France, thanks to the proposal of the press chief of that year’s Olympic Games, Frantz Reichel, and the Belgian Victor Boin.
n” “nThe importance of sports journalism
n” “nThe sports journalist is not limited only to narrating news or sporting events. These professionals have a fundamental role in promoting sport as a topic of general and educational interest, encouraging sports habits that have a positive impact on people’s health. Their work includes generating debates and discussions based on the information they transmit, contributing to fostering sports practice and a passion for sports.
n” “nMany of these professionals work in the sports section of newspapers and magazines, writing articles about sporting events and providing relevant information about athletes and sportspeople. Others are found on the field, narrating live sporting events and Olympic games for radio or television, placing special emphasis on the development of the event and the performance of the players and athletes.
