Messi misses out on his second World Cup

Argentine Lionel Messi missed out on his second world title, after Argentina lost this Sunday the 2026 World Cup final to Spain 1-0 at the New York/New Jersey stadium.
In the third World Cup final he played with the Albiceleste, the 39-year-old Argentine star could not repeat his feat from Qatar 2022, when Argentina obtained their third star against France in a penalty shootout. Previously, he played in the Brazil 2014 final, which Argentina lost to Germany 1-0.
By playing in this final, Messi equaled the Brazilian Cafu as the second footballer in history to play in three World Cup finals, also becoming the oldest outfield player to participate in a title-deciding match.
