Santo Domingo. The Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) continues to advance in the transformation of the country’s main sports facilities ahead of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, consolidating one of the largest sports infrastructure interventions carried out in recent years.
The institution, headed by Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, reported that nine sports facilities have already been delivered, distributed between the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and the Parque del Este, venues that will host a large part of the regional competitions scheduled from July 24 to August 8, 2026.
The renovations are part of the commitment made by President Luis Abinader’s government to modernize the main national sports complexes and adapt them to the international standards required for high-level events.
Nine facilities have already been delivered
Among the completed and delivered infrastructures are the Karate Pavilion, the Practice Volleyball Pavilion, Softball Stadium A, the Aquatic Center, the Fencing Pavilion, the Weightlifting Pavilion, the Archery Field, the Table Tennis Pavilion, and the Gymnastics Pavilion.

Minister Ito Bisonó assured that the works maintain constant monitoring to guarantee compliance with the established deadlines and the quality of each installation.
“There is daily work and close monitoring to ensure that every project advances at the pace the country needs. We are focused on meeting deadlines, but above all on delivering quality facilities that are ready to receive the delegations and leave a solid legacy for Dominican sports,” the official expressed.
Key works advance towards their final phase
The MIVHED also reported that several strategic facilities are entering their final stage of construction and remodeling.

In the Parque del Este, work on the Handball Pavilion is progressing, while at the Olympic Center, interventions continue on the Chess, Basketball, Taekwondo, and Wrestling pavilions, as well as in the beach volleyball area and the warm-up track of the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.
Similarly, exterior beautification works are being carried out, focusing on lighting, green areas, and urban improvement of the entire sports complex surroundings.
A legacy beyond the Games
The authorities highlighted that the works not only seek to guarantee the organizational success of Santo Domingo 2026, but also to leave a modern and functional infrastructure for future generations of Dominican athletes.
The renovation of these spaces will allow for strengthening the preparation of national athletes, expanding the country’s capacity to host international competitions, and continuing to boost the growth of multiple sports disciplines.
With these advancements, the Dominican Republic continues to accelerate its preparation for one of the most important sporting events in the region, which will bring together thousands of athletes from across the continent.
