Queens of the Caribbean achieve their third consecutive win by defeating Puerto Rico in the 2026 NORCECA

Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic Women’s National Volleyball Team, popularly known as The Queens of the Caribbean, defeated their Puerto Rican counterpart 3-1 on Sunday night, in the continuation of the 2026 NORCECA Continental Championship.

The match, corresponding to the third date of the tournament, was held to a full house at the “Prof. Ricardo Gioriber Arias” Volleyball Palace, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

After dropping the first set, the Dominicans adjusted their offense and net defense to come back with consecutive set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-23. The victory consolidates the position of the Quisqueyan team in the international tournament that brings together the best teams in the region.

Reinas del Caribe advance undefeated

The duel against Puerto Rico was key for the Dominicans, who share Group B with Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Costa Ricans. According to the official NORCECA schedule, the preliminary round matches concluded this Sunday, while the teams that finish in second and third place in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The winners of both groups will obtain a direct pass to the semifinals.

In addition to defending its crown, the Dominican Republic has as one of its major goals to advance on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Continental Championship will also grant three spots for the 2027 Women’s World Championship, while the best teams will continue to the NORCECA Continental Qualifier, scheduled for August 28 and 29 at the same venue, which will award an Olympic ticket.

The Queens of the Caribbean arrive at this match with the support of their fans and the momentum of having recently won their seventh consecutive title at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. Now they will seek to maintain their regional dominance and take another step toward the season’s major goals.
