The UN introduced days dedicated to official languages into its calendar of celebrations in 2010 to promote cultural diversity and multilingualism.
In tribute to Alexander Pushkin
June 6th was chosen to celebrate the Russian language because it coincides with the birthday of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, creator of his own narrative style, a mixture of drama, romance, and satire.
