Santo Domingo. – With just 30 years old and a recognized career in politics, councilman Michael Matos bursts onto the literary scene with the launch of his first book,
“Before Forever”, a work that combines micro-novels, short stories and poetry in an innovative and deeply
Dominican style.
The presentation event was held at the Izbira Event Venue, where authorities, personalities from the cultural and community fields, as well as the author’s family and friends, gathered. In an atmosphere charged with emotion, Matos moved those present with a sincere and profound speech.
“Today is not just the presentation of a book. Today is the presentation of a piece of my life, of my wounds and my dreams. Today I undress myself, but not with my body, but with words,” expressed Matos.
A book that was born in silence
Matos explained that the work arose in long nights of sleeplessness, in which words became his refuge. “I didn’t want to write a book that was just read. I wanted to write a book that was felt. Because books are not objects; they are bridges. Bridges that remind us that we are not alone in what we feel,” exclaimed Michael.
The text brings together micro novels, short stories, micro stories, and poetry that reflect the voice of a young man from the neighborhood who never stopped dreaming, the pain of a son who lost his father too soon, and the love of a father who discovered his greatest fears when holding his own son.
Behind every word, its family
The writer dedicated a special section to two pillars of his life: his son and his father, both named Luis Matos. “My son is my greatest joy, my purest pride and also, I confess, my deepest fear. My father left before his time, but never before teaching me by example. They are the invisible pages of this book,” he shared emotionally.
A Message of Transcendence
The motivation behind the work, according to Matos, is to leave a legacy: “I want this book to be like a small lamp: that it doesn’t illuminate everything, but that it at least takes away the darkness from someone, even if only for a moment.”
With Before Forever, Michael Matos opens a different chapter in his public life, in which politics and literature intertwine to reaffirm that the voice of young people can resonate in multiple scenarios.
