Torrential rains have triggered catastrophic flooding across India’s northeastern state of Assam, killing at least 68 people and affecting hundreds of thousands of residents.
Floodwaters have inundated communities across the state, with dramatic videos showing homes collapsing as powerful currents swept through neighborhoods. Residents in Sivasagar district were seen wading through floodwaters surrounding submerged homes.
Authorities said the flooding has impacted hundreds of thousands of people across more than 1,800 villages as relentless monsoon rains continue to batter the region. Emergency teams are carrying out rescue and relief operations while many families remain displaced.
Officials continue to monitor water levels as heavy rainfall persists, raising concerns that flooding could worsen in the coming days.
