New York authorities declared a state of emergency following torrential rains that caused widespread flooding across parts of the state, including New York City.
The heavy rainfall flooded streets, stranded vehicles and disrupted transportation, while several major roads were closed as emergency crews responded to rising water levels. Queens was among the areas significantly affected.
The severe weather also produced a tornado after a waterspout moved ashore on Long Island, causing damage to structures in Atlantic Beach. Authorities continue to assess the impact of the storms.
