A dense orange haze covered the sky over Pontianak on the Indonesian island of Borneo as intense wildfires continue to affect parts of the country.
The thick smoke has reduced air quality across affected areas, with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health reporting that more than 12.5 million people have been exposed to the haze in Borneo and Sumatra.
Residents in affected areas have reported breathing difficulties and other respiratory problems as smoke from the fires continues to spread.
Since the beginning of the year, wildfires in Indonesia have destroyed more than 800,000 hectares, according to the information provided by authorities.
The unusual orange-colored sky in Pontianak has drawn attention online, with images of the city covered by smoke creating an appearance that some compared to the surface of Mars.
