15-year sentence for man who killed his romantic partner in Elías Piña

Santo Domingo. An Elías Piña court sentenced Francisco Ubrí Basilio to 15 years in prison after finding him guilty of causing the death of his romantic partner, Rosa Sail, during an incident that occurred in March 2025 in the municipality of Comendador.

The convicted person, who was arrested in flagrante delicto, received the sentence after the Public Prosecutor’s Office demonstrated his criminal responsibility in the homicide.

The accusation was supported by prosecutor Angelina Valdez Cabrera and supervisor José Santos, who requested a 15-year prison sentence after establishing during the trial that the defendant violated the provisions of articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code.

According to the indictment, the crime occurred on March 18, 2025, at the home the couple shared on Principal Street, in the La Patilla section, in the Comendador municipality. The argument originated when the victim confronted the aggressor over the sale of a cow that belonged to her.

In the midst of the altercation, Ubrí Basilio took a bladed weapon, described as a serrated knife, and stabbed the woman eight times, in front of their son, an 11-year-old boy. The minor ran out to seek help at his sister’s home, while his mother was taken to a health center, where she subsequently died from her wounds.

The defendant was arrested at the scene in possession of the weapon that, according to the investigations, he used to commit the crime.

The sentence was handed down by the Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Elías Piña, composed of judges Edward Augusto Gerónimo Sánchez, who presides, Blaury Luciano Ferreras, and Sauly D. González del Rosario. The convicted person must serve the sentence at the Elías Piña Correction and Rehabilitation Center.
