“24,400 liters of methamphetamine seized in Mexico, the highest figure under Sheinbaum’s term”

 Mexico.- The Mexican Army and the National Guard seized 24,400 liters of liquid methamphetamine a few days ago at a property linked to the Sinaloa Cartel in the northwest of the country, which represents the largest seizure since Claudia Sheinbaum took office as president in October 2024.

This was highlighted this Monday by the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa) through a statement in which it reported that the anti-drug operation took place on June 19 and 20 in the city of Los Mochis, in the state of Sinaloa.

The military located 24,400 liters of liquid methamphetamine in a property, as well as 98,640 liters and 59,425 kilograms of chemical substances “used for the production of synthetic drugs”.

They also seized two vehicles, magazines for long guns, and ammunition of various calibers.

“This seizure, due to its magnitude, is considered the largest confiscation of its kind in the current administration and the second largest in history, with an economic impact on organized crime of more than 9 billion pesos (518 million dollars),” the Defense highlighted.

Due to these facts, Jorge ‘N’ was arrested, an alleged member of the Sinaloa Cartel, designated last year by the White House as a foreign terrorist organization.

The suspect was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), an agency that also participated in the operation in Los Mochis.

Since Sheinbaum’s arrival to power, Mexico has intensified intelligence efforts against drug trafficking by both sea and land, amidst pressure from Washington regarding security and the aggressive rhetoric of its president, Donald Trump.

Sinaloa, one of the states with the most homicides in the country, is the cradle of the historic cartel founded by Joaquín ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán and Ismael ‘el Mayo’ Zambada, both currently imprisoned in the United States.

In fact, El Chapo was arrested in Los Mochis in 2016, following his escape from a high-security prison a few months earlier.

The state has been experiencing a crisis of violence since September 2024 due to the internal war of the Sinaloa Cartel, and its governor, Rubén Rocha Moya, was accused by the U.S. a few months ago of collaborating with the criminal group Los Chapitos, led by the sons of El Chapo.

For the moment, the Mexican government refuses to address the urgent arrest request against the official and justifies its refusal by the lack of conclusive evidence against him.
