Santo Domingo Norte.– A 68-year-old man lost his life after receiving an electric shock on Saturday afternoon in the Carlos Álvarez sector, in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte municipality.
The victim was identified as Héctor Antonio Santos, who, according to his relatives, was trying to move an electrical extension cord to which a washing machine was connected when he received a strong shock that left him stuck to the current.
According to reports, his wife and one of his daughters tried to help him, but they were also struck by the electricity and the impact threw them backward. Both survived the incident.
After the tragedy became known, residents of the sector held a protest and burned tires to demand that the authorities restore a stable and safe electrical service.

Community members reported that constant power outages are affecting the area and asserted that, when power is restored, it arrives with an excessively high voltage, a situation that, they claim, endangers the lives of residents and causes damage to electrical equipment.
The protesters called on the authorities and the electricity distribution company to investigate what happened and adopt measures to prevent further tragedies in the community.
