Brussels.- A woman who was doing an internship for NATO in Belgium was arrested on suspicion of spying for another country, according to what the Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office reported this Saturday.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the woman is a Canadian citizen of Chinese origin who, after searches were conducted at her home and workplace, was arrested on Friday accused of “espionage for the benefit of a third country” and “participation in a criminal organization.”
Internships at the Supreme Headquarters (SHAPE)
The suspect was doing her internship at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE), near the Belgian city of Mons, from where all NATO military operations and strategic missions worldwide are planned and carried out.

According to local media, the woman collected “especially sensitive information” during her internship, even though she did not have permission to do so and raised suspicions among security teams due to her “suspicious behavior.”
