Abinader appoints Rafael Evaristo Santos Badía as new Minister of MESCYT

Santo Domingo. – The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, appointed Rafael Evaristo Santos Badía as the new head of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), in a move by the Executive Branch aimed at strengthening national educational management and continuing policies in science, innovation and higher education.

The presidential decree formalizing the appointment —published by national media and official social media— entrusts Santos Badía with the strategic leadership of MESCYT, with the aim of promoting higher education, scientific initiatives, and technological development in the country. Santos Badía is a professional with extensive experience in education and Dominican public administration. Born in Tenares, Hermanas Mirabal province, he holds a law degree, a technician in Cooperative Business Administration and has diplomas in Political Economy, Labor and Trade Union Law, as well as in International Relations, which gives him a solid background to take on this new challenge at the head of the education portfolio.

Before this appointment, the official served as general director of the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP), where he led training programs that have benefited thousands of Dominicans, strengthening technical professional training throughout the country. President Abinader has pointed out on multiple occasions the importance of higher education and innovation as pillars for the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic. With this appointment, the government hopes to increase institutional efficiency and energize educational programs that promote the competitiveness of young Dominicans in a globalized world. The new head of MESCYT will formally assume his duties in the coming days and will be responsible for coordinating efforts with the academic sector, the scientific community, and the various actors in the national education system to advance the goals of training, research, and innovation.
