Santo Domingo. – The Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic (CCRD) registered a significant and unprecedented growth in the reception of citizen complaints during the year 2026, consolidating itself as a channel increasingly used by the population to ensure the proper use of public resources. Between January and April 2026, the institution received a total of 24 citizen complaints, a figure that represents 85.7% of the total recorded during the entire year 2025, when about 28 cases were counted in total. The president of the CCRD, Dr. Emma Polanco Melo, along with the members of the Plenary, valued this behavior as a sign of the strengthening of citizens’ trust in the superior body of external control, highlighting that each complaint constitutes a manifestation of commitment to transparency and accountability.

This increase reflects a more conscious, participatory, and vigilant citizenry, which uses institutional channels to demand responsible public management, while reaffirming the role of the Accounts Chamber as guarantor of the proper use of State resources”, expressed the president of the oversight body. Dr. Polanco Melo also indicated that this increase demonstrates not only greater citizen participation, but also the impact of the initiatives developed by the institution to reach the population, promote a culture of legality, and strengthen social control mechanisms throughout the national territory. According to data provided by the Director of Social Control of the Chamber of Accounts, Bernardo Matías, when comparing the January-April period of 2026 with the same period of 2025 —when only two complaints were registered— an increase of 22 cases is observed, equivalent to an approximate increase of 1,100%, which shows a notable growth in citizen participation. Matías explained that this behavior is closely related to the strengthening of access tools such as the digital platform “Citizen Eye” and the community meetings “The Chamber Hears You”, initiatives that have facilitated citizens to file complaints in an agile, safe and accessible manner. Likewise, he maintained that this increase constitutes a direct indicator of the credibility and trust that citizens place in the Accounts Chamber as an institution responsible for ensuring the proper administration of public resources. With these results, the Court of Auditors reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening citizen participation mechanisms, promoting transparency and expanding access channels so that the population can play an active role in the monitoring and protection of public heritage.
