Santo Domingo.- Maestro Amaury Sánchez described the process of conducting the gala concert “Todo Beethoven” organized by Promoción Apec (Promapec) as “challenging and deeply gratifying” during a conversation with De Último Minuto within the framework of the event’s press conference, which will be held on February 11th at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito.
Sánchez, who will once again lead the Santo Domingo Philharmonic Orchestra, explained that undertaking a program entirely dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven implies a high level of technical, artistic, and emotional demand. “Beethoven’s music is music that everyone likes, but it is challenging music, it is not easy,” said the director, highlighting that expectations must be analyzed both from what the public expects and from what the artists propose.
The maestro revealed that the preparation for this concert has required rigorous discipline, including three hours of daily study, as part of the necessary process to achieve a performance worthy of the repertoire. “Our personal challenge is to try to deliver an impeccable concert, dignifying Beethoven’s music to the fullest, with a great soloist and a great orchestra,” he expressed.
The program includes Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor”, considered one of the crowning works of the German composer, as well as Symphony No. 3 “Heroic”, a piece that, according to Sánchez, marks a before and after in the history of music. “The ‘Heroic’ makes the transition between the classical and romantic periods, with a restructuring of the orchestration designed for a large orchestra; it is a work with history, transcendence and an enormous expressive charge”, he explained.
Amaury Sánchez also highlighted the human and social value of collaborating again with Promapec, an institution with which he has worked on multiple occasions. “I love collaborating with these types of causes, especially with Promapec. Working for the most vulnerable sectors is always very dignifying for the soul, that’s how I feel,” confessed the maestro.
Finally, the director assured that the audience will not only enjoy a high-level musical evening, but also the artistic and spiritual effort that a concert of this magnitude entails. “I am sure that people are going to enjoy great music and the effort we make, not only artistically, but also spiritually, because in the case of Promapec this is for education,” concluded Sánchez.
