Boca Chica.– An 11-year-old boy allegedly used a homemade weapon, known as a “chilena”, in the incident in which his 6-year-old brother lost his life, which occurred in the Los Tanquecitos sector, in this municipality.
The information was provided by a local resident, who indicated that the minor had found the device in a goat pen near the family home, before taking it inside the house.
According to preliminary reports, the shot was fired accidentally while the child was handling the weapon, causing a fatal wound to his younger brother.

According to the authorities’ report, the tragic event occurred on Friday afternoon, when the 11-year-old was at the house with his little brother. In circumstances that are still under investigation, the weapon was fired, causing a wound to the neck of the 6-year-old boy.
The minor was immediately transferred to a local health center, where he later died due to the severity of the injury.
After the fact, another brother, 17 years old, would have thrown the weapon out a window towards the back of the house. The artifact was recovered by the authorities and placed under custody for investigation purposes.

The National Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are keeping investigations open to fully clarify what happened.
Meanwhile, the 11-year-old was provisionally handed over to his relatives and will be placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents (NNA), which will follow up on the case in accordance with the law.
The event has generated deep consternation in the community, whose residents have expressed concern about the circulation of homemade weapons and the danger they pose, especially to minors.
