Authorities detail progress on the expansion of the Sánchez aqueduct; announce service suspension on March 19

Samaná.- The National Institute of Potable Water and Sewers INAPA, and the contractors responsible for the expansion of the municipal aqueduct, offered details on the work being carried out at the Santa Capusa River intake. During a tour of the area, in which deputy Cecilio García participated, the collapse of the catchment trunk, a key structure for the damming and distribution of water, was verified. According to the technicians, population growth has exceeded the capacity of the current system, making its expansion necessary. As part of the ongoing actions, the replacement of the trunk with a new, higher-capacity structure is contemplated, with the aim of reducing liquid losses. Likewise, the construction of a dam is being evaluated to guarantee continuous flow to the cistern and distribution tanks. While the main works progress, provisional measures are carried out, including the temporary damming of water, in order to ensure the supply to the population.

Similarly, they reported that the drinking water service in the municipality of Sánchez will be temporarily suspended on Thursday, March 19, due to the replacement of a critical valve within the system. As part of the progress, a new tank with a capacity of 530,000 gallons of drinking water is being built in the community of Las Garitas, which will allow the area to be supplied for the next 20 years, benefiting communities from Los Corrales to Aguas Buenas.
