“Banks and insurance companies focus on AI and cybersecurity during assembly in Santo Domingo”

The Central American Council of Superintendents of Banks, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions (CCSBSO) held its general assembly in the Dominican capital, focusing on key topics for financial supervision, such as cybersecurity, model risk, and the impact of artificial intelligence on banking.

The meeting brought together delegations from its nine member countries to exchange experiences and strengthen regional coordination in the face of technological transformations in the sector.

During the opening, the president of the CCSBSO and Superintendent of Banks of the Dominican Republic, Alejandro Fernández W., highlighted that the agenda reflects the current priorities of supervision, underscoring cybersecurity as a fundamental element for the operational resilience of financial entities.

The assembly also addressed model risk, in an environment where the use of analytical tools is increasingly decisive, as well as the advancement of artificial intelligence, which is driving significant changes in financial intermediation and poses new challenges for regulation.

Representatives from the superintendencies of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic, the host country, gathered for the activity.

The agenda also included the accountability report of the technical committees and the review of administrative matters of the CCSBSO.

Within the framework of this assembly, the organization commemorated its 50th anniversary, reaffirming its trajectory of regional cooperation and its commitment to the continuous strengthening of financial supervision.

Regarding this anniversary, representatives from organizations such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, the IMF Regional Technical Assistance Center for Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR), and the Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas (ASBA) issued messages of congratulations and appreciation for the role of the CCSBSO in the exchange of knowledge and regulatory and supervisory best practices since its creation in 1976.
