Santo Domingo.– Dr. Leonardo Aguilera, Executive President of Banreservas, stated that the institution will continue to strengthen its support for the agricultural sector and the strategic programs that boost national production, following the confirmation by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) that the Dominican Republic has been removed from the hunger map.
The banking executive described this recognition as a historic achievement for the country, reached thanks to the leadership of President Luis Abinader and the joint work of the Government, agricultural producers, the private sector, and society.
“Today we celebrate a historic achievement for the Dominican Republic. The FAO confirmed that our country has left the hunger map, a result of President Luis Abinader’s leadership and public policies that have strengthened food security, such as the expansion of the Economic Kitchens (Comedores Económicos), which went from 36 to 163 establishments and from serving 18,000 to more than 183,000 daily rations,” stated Dr. Aguilera.
Likewise, he assured that this important breakthrough represents a commitment to continue strengthening the initiatives that contribute to guaranteeing food security and the country’s economic development.
“At Banreservas, we will continue to support agriculture, livestock, and strategic programs that strengthen food production with financing, because supporting the countryside is contributing to food security, economic growth, and the well-being of all Dominicans,” he stated.
