Berklee awards 43 scholarships, after the closure of the academic program in Santo Domingo 2026

Santo Domingo.– A total of 43 Dominican students received scholarships from Berklee College of Music, including the prestigious Michael Camilo scholarship, who will sponsor one of those awarded after the completion of the international academic program Berklee in Santo Domingo 2026, which concluded this Saturday with a concert and closing ceremony in the Carlos Piantini hall of the National Theater Eduardo Brito. The scholarships were awarded after an intense week of musical training and academic evaluation, in which nearly 200 selected students from different regions of the country participated, who demonstrated their talent and progress during the closing concert, performed by the program participants themselves. The event served as a showcase to highlight the results of the training process carried out from January 5th to 10th, a period in which the young musicians received specialized instruction under international academic standards. After the artistic presentation, the formal closing ceremony took place with the presence of cultural and academic authorities, including the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo; the Vice President and Executive Director of Berklee College of Music, Ron Savage; the Vice Minister of Creativity and Artistic Training, Amaury Sánchez; and the Senior Vice President of Berklee Global, María Martínez Iturriaga.

Also in attendance were the president of the AES Dominicana Foundation and general manager of Itabo, Edwin de los Santos; the general director of Fine Arts, Marinella Sallent; the director of the National Conservatory of Music, Paola González; and the coordinator of Berklee in Santo Domingo, Javier Vargas. The program was organized by the Ministry of Culture, in coordination with the General Directorate of Fine Arts, the National Conservatory of Music, and Berklee College of Music, with the aim of strengthening specialized musical training and creating concrete opportunities for international projection for young Dominican talents. With the awarding of these 43 scholarships, Berklee in Santo Domingo 2026 closes its academic and artistic agenda, consolidating itself as a formative exchange platform that promotes the development of the country’s young talent and its direct connection with one of the most prestigious musical institutions in the world.
