Rio de Janeiro.- The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled its ambassador to Argentina, Julio Bitelli, for consultations this Sunday following the insults made by the Argentine president, Javier Milei, during the launch of Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential candidacy in São Paulo.
The Brazilian diplomat will arrive in the country between Sunday night and Monday morning, as confirmed to EFE by sources from the ministry.
The decision was adopted by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry one day after Milei made strong criticisms against the Government and a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Brazil during the Liberal Party (PL) convention, where he accompanied the proclamation of his ally Flávio Bolsonaro as a candidate for the October elections.
Javier Milei’s harsh words
During his speech, the Argentine leader criticized the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and called magistrate Alexandre de Moraes, the judge in charge of the case that led to the conviction of former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) to 27 years in prison for a coup attempt, “bald trash.”

Milei also questioned De Moraes’ decision to deny him authorization to visit the far-right leader, who is serving house arrest in Brasilia.
“The Brazilian justice system did not allow me to visit my unjustly imprisoned friend, when Lula grew tired of receiving foreign leaders while he was in prison,” stated the Argentine president, who maintained that this decision constitutes “a clear demonstration of the injustice of his detention and the vindictive nature of those responsible for it.”
Milei also lashed out at the Brazilian president, whom he accused of being a “thief” and of “spreading socialism” in Latin America, as well as leading Brazil toward a fiscal crisis.

The libertarian leader pointed out that several countries in the region are abandoning left-wing governments and forming what he called the “blue wave,” and expressed his confidence that Brazil will join that process with an eventual victory for Flávio Bolsonaro in the elections on October 4th.
The rejection in Brazil of Milei’s offenses
The statements by the Argentine president provoked a reaction on Saturday from the president of Brazil’s Supreme Court, Luiz Edson Fachin, who deplored the insults directed at Judge De Moraes and reaffirmed the independence of the Brazilian Judiciary.
They were also rejected by the president of the ruling Workers’ Party (PT), Edinho Silva, who accused Milei of disrespecting Brazilian institutions and the country’s head of state.
