Santo Domingo.– Engineer Carlos Manuel de los Santos Romano was the most voted candidate in the elections for the Chemical Engineers Chapter of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) for the 2026-2027 term, obtaining 166 votes, the highest figure in the electoral process.
According to Preliminary Bulletin No. 03 of the CODIA National Electoral Commission, 286 votes were cast in the election, of which 285 were valid and one was null, setting a record for participation and voting for this professional chapter.
The election day was held nationwide with representation in eight regional offices and 23 delegations, coordinated from the CODIA Central, and featured the participation of two slates composed of 10 candidates.

Management priorities
After learning the results, De los Santos Romano thanked the support received and stated that the high turnout demonstrates the interest of chemical engineers in strengthening their representation within the guild.

Among the main goals of his administration are:
- Promote continuing education programs, refresher courses, and specialized training aimed at the needs of the industrial sector.
- Conduct a national census of chemical engineers to identify where they work, their specialties, and create a database that facilitates connections with companies and industries.
- Promote agreements between universities and the business sector to facilitate internships and improve access to first employment for future professionals.
- Encourage the professional registration of chemical engineers who are not yet part of CODIA. Currently, the institution registers 768 professionals in this field.

Professional career
Carlos Manuel de los Santos Romano is a graduate of Chemical Engineering from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), class of October 28, 1984.

He began his career at Barceló y Compañía, C. por A., where he participated in the areas of production, bottling, aging, and alcohol distillation for nearly eight years. As part of his training, he received technical instruction in Spain and specialized training at the Bacardí facilities in Puerto Rico.
His experience also spans the automotive sector, where he was elected on three occasions as vice president of the National Association of New and Used Vehicle Distribution Agencies (ANADIVE). In addition, he has been linked to a family business in the agro-industrial sector dedicated to the production and processing of rice in the southern region of the country.
With the support obtained for the 2026-2027 period, De los Santos Romano reaffirmed his commitment to working for a more integrated chemical engineering, with greater visibility and focused on expanding training and employment opportunities for professionals in the Dominican Republic.
