According to data from the Continuous National Labor Force Survey (ENCFT), 121,164 new net employed persons were generated, including formal and informal, in the last twelve months.

According to the survey conducted by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), in the second quarter of 2025 the total employed in the Dominican economy (including formal and informal) was 5,123,548 workers, for an increase of 121,164 new net employed compared to April-June 2024.

These data reflect that the recent performance of the labor market continues to show a positive behavior in the indicators of employment, unemployment and informality.

In this context, both the level and the occupancy rate are at historical highs, while unemployment and the informality rate are around their lowest levels since the beginning of the ENCFT statistical series.

When analyzing the dynamics of the employed according to demographic variables, the participation of the young population aged 15 to 39 years stands out, which concentrated 82.5% of the new jobs. Likewise, it was evidenced that 86,532 additional jobs were held by people with university studies, equivalent to 71.4% of the total generated. In terms of gender, men contributed 78,440 workers, while women added 42,724.

The employment rate (TO), that is, the ratio between the total employed and the working-age population (PET), remained at 62.8% for April-June 2025, being the highest figure in the series of this indicator, 1.0 percentage points (p.p.) higher than the rate of the second quarter of 2024.

Analyzing the year-on-year increase of 121,164 workers in April-June 2025, it is observed that formal employment increased by 164,598 people, while informal employment decreased by 43,434 people. Thus, the informality rate stood at 54.0% of the employed population in the second quarter of 2025, for a reduction of 2.2 percentage points compared to the 56.1% recorded in the same period of 2024.

Regarding the evolution of unemployment, it decreased from 5.3% in April-June 2024 to 5.0% in the same quarter of 2025. It is noteworthy that the open unemployment rate (indicator of underutilization SU1), that is, the percentage of unemployed people who are actively seeking work as a proportion of the labor force, after reaching 8.0% in the first quarter of 2021 as a consequence of the effects of the pandemic, has been decreasing until remaining in recent quarters around its minimum values within the historical series.

In another order, the degree of insertion of people over 15 years of age in the labor market, measured by the overall participation rate (TGP), defined as the ratio between the labor force (PEA) and the working-age population (PET), reached its maximum value by registering 66.1% in the second quarter of 2025, 0.8 percentage points above that obtained in the same period of 2024.
