Christmas 2026: These are the new trends for home decoration

Christmas is starting to be felt in Dominican homes and, with it, comes the time to dust off the decorations to set up the traditional Christmas tree.
This year, trends point towards finding a balance between elegance and tradition. For architect and designer Sonya Pérez, lighting, colors, and harmony between elements will be the protagonists of this season’s decorative proposals.
“Silver colors, gold colors, colors that are truly vibrant within the home… We are going to see a traditional, minimalist or more sophisticated Christmas, more than traditional it will be a more elegant Christmas,” stated the interior design professional.
The interior designer also stated that originality in every home is also important, which is why she understands that beyond trends, what is significant is how each person implements the energy of Christmas within their home.
According to Pérez, those who wish to welcome the “New Year” with a renewed atmosphere, the masterful choice should be colors that invite joy, so that they can become an opportunity to transform spaces without the need to make major changes.
“I recommend having lighting in homes, that joy that should be inside a home at Christmas, because everything seems to look vibrant, the trending colors are navy blue, green, and cream as a golden tone”, indicated the landscaper.
The little tree: the star of Christmas decoration
The architect also indicated that one of the elements that draws the most attention during the Christmas festivities is the traditional little tree.
Where she suggested placing it to the west of the house, according to current “Feng Shui” rules, Sonya Peréz highlighted that choosing a strategic location can make a difference in the home’s layout, especially when dealing with limited spaces.
“The little tree is what should draw attention when you enter your home, your house. And this year, “Feng Shui” recommends that it be in the west of the house, which is easily done with a compass,” explained Sonya Pérez.
Regarding traditional elements, such as charamicos, and new trends like scapulars, Sonya Pérez indicated that both maintain their presence during this season and contribute a cultural hallmark that allows for the creation of decorations with identity.
“Charamicos are traditional and, honestly, I am fascinated when I start to see all that color on the avenues, made of charamico,” he stated.
Trends change, but the essence of Christmas remains; the invitation is to decorate with creativity, make the most of what we have, and combine new styles with our traditions.
