Santo Domingo.- Incorporating the habit of climbing stairs into your daily routine could be linked to a lower probability of suffering from cardiovascular diseases and a lower risk of premature death, according to an analysis that gathered data from more than 480,000 people.
The research found that those who included this activity regularly had a 39% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular diseases, while the risk of dying from any cause was 24% lower.
Researchers consider that climbing stairs can be a practical way to increase physical activity during the day, without the need for special equipment or going to a gym.
Furthermore, this activity involves physical effort that can increase heart rate and activate different muscle groups. For that reason, specialists consider that small changes in daily activities can contribute to maintaining a more active life.
However, the results show an association and do not prove that climbing stairs is directly the cause of lower mortality. The analysis also does not establish how many times a day or for how long this activity should be performed to obtain greater benefits.

Researchers point out that further studies are still needed to determine the frequency and number of steps that could be most beneficial for health.
Meanwhile, incorporating the stairs instead of the elevator when physical conditions allow can be a simple alternative to add movement to your daily routine.
Specialists also recommend maintaining regular physical activity adapted to each person’s conditions, as part of a healthy lifestyle and measures aimed at reducing cardiovascular risk factors.
