Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) expanded this Wednesday to 10 the number of provinces under a green alert, along with the National District, due to rains associated with a trough and the approach of a tropical wave to the national territory.
The provinces that are under a green alert are San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte and Santo Domingo, along with the National District.
The decision was made after the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) warned that moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, wind gusts, and possible hail are expected during the afternoon, with a high probability of urban and rural flooding, as well as the overflowing of rivers, streams, and creeks.
The agency indicated that the rainfall will also extend towards La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, María Trinidad Sánchez, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Independencia, and Bahoruco, among other locations.

Given this situation, the COE recommended that the population remain attentive to official bulletins, follow the guidelines of civil protection agencies, and avoid crossing rivers, streams, and creeks with high volumes of water, as well as using swimming areas in the provinces under alert.

Regarding maritime conditions, INDOMET reported that small, fragile, and medium-sized vessels must remain in port along several stretches of the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts due to deteriorating sea conditions.
