Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed seven provinces and the National District under a yellow alert this Thursday, while maintaining eight other provinces on green alert, due to weather conditions caused by the incidence of a trough and a tropical wave that are maintaining a humid and unstable environment over the national territory.
La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Santo Domingo, the National District, San Pedro de Macorís, and San Cristóbal are on yellow alert.
While Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San José de Ocoa, Duarte, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago, and Hermanas Mirabal remain on green alert.
The measure was adopted after the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported that the incidence of the trough, together with the tropical wave, maintains a very humid and unstable environment, which is why heavy downpours are forecast, accompanied by thunderstorms, wind gusts, and possible isolated hail in different parts of the country.

The COE explained that these conditions could cause urban and rural flooding, as well as the overflowing of rivers, streams, and creeks, mainly in the most vulnerable areas.

Given this situation, the agency recommended that the population refrain from crossing rivers, streams, and creeks that have high volumes of water, as well as not to use swimming areas in the provinces under alert.
Likewise, he urged citizens to remain attentive to the official bulletins issued by the COE and INDOMET, and to follow the guidelines of civil protection agencies.
The COE reported that it will continue to monitor the evolution of weather conditions and will issue new provisions if necessary.
