Santo Domingo.– The Los Guandules sector, in the National District, remains shocked after the death of a seven-year-old girl who, according to the authorities, was a victim of torture at the hands of her guardians, Yokeiry Coronado de la Cruz and Jeider Montero Medina, who have already been arrested by the National Police. Neighbors in the area expressed their helplessness and pain, and they assure that on several occasions the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani) was alerted about the situation of mistreatment that the minor was experiencing, without receiving a timely response.

What most surprises the community is that Yokeiry Coronado, the girl’s stepmother and the main accused, had been residing in the neighborhood for more than 20 years and had never shown aggressive behavior.

“Ella no era una mujer maltratadora, aquí todo el mundo la conocía tranquila”,

dijo una vecina.
In the same vein, Coronado’s ex-partner, who lived with her for four years, assured that in all that time he never observed strange behavior or signs of violence.

“I never saw anything strange, it was always normal, that’s why this has us all surprised,” he expressed.

The community agrees that the tragedy has left a deep wound, not only because of the painful loss of the girl, but also because of the bewilderment caused by the fact that someone who was always perceived as a peaceful person is today accused of being responsible for such an atrocious act.
