Santo Domingo.– The presiding judge of the First Collegiate Tribunal of the National District, Gisselle Méndez, authorized Alejandro José Montero Cruz, charged in the Coral and Coral 5G corruption cases, to travel temporarily to the United States for health reasons.
The judicial authorization covers the period from
December 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025, as established by the court, which also includes magistrates Tania Yunes and Jissell Naranjo.
As a result of the permission granted, the court decided to postpone the hearing and set the continuation of the trial for “January 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.”, the date on which the process against those accused of the alleged administrative corruption network will resume.
The Coral case and Coral 5G involve several defendants accused by the
Public Ministry of defrauding the Dominican State of more than RD$4.5 billion, through a network of administrative irregularities, fraudulent contracts and fictitious appointments, mainly in State security agencies.
The court indicated that the travel authorization was granted under the corresponding legal conditions, while the judicial process continues its course according to the established schedule.
These cases are part of the most relevant anti-corruption processes in the country, due to the amount of the alleged fraud and the number of former officials and civilians involved.
