Customs seizes hundreds of thousands of goods that arrived with false or undervalued declarations

The General Customs Directorate (DGA), through its Intelligence Management, is actively detecting the illegal import of goods for commercial purposes, nutritional supplements, ammunition, military supplies, and weapons.

Among the most significant seizures so far this year, some 236 air conditioners and 306 televisions are reported, just in these, trying to evade about RD$3,499,367.00 in taxes.

Also, more than 9,000 products or articles for body care were seized, mainly creams and perfumes, 2,297 nutritional supplements, more than 60,000 kilos of used clothing and 462 pairs of sneakers.

Also, some $196,000 were seized, which they tried to bring into the country illegally.

In addition, 15,798 cigarettes, seven firearms, 40,880 ammunitions, 75 alcoholic beverages, 50 military supplies, 27 vehicle parts, 9 vehicles, among others.

As a result of these findings, the Intelligence Management conducted three raids, four controlled deliveries, and arrested one person, while investigations are ongoing.

Military supplies include bulletproof vests, binoculars, caps and military-style insignias, katanas, crossbows, and gel blasters.

These goods were retained for having been imported with false declarations or for not having the required permits for the import of such consumer or pharmaceutical products.

They were detected in the Administration of Haina, Puerto Plata and the cargo area of Las Américas International Airport.

With this action, the DGA prevents these articles from reaching the streets of the Dominican Republic, thus fulfilling its role as protector of society.

The institution also reported that it will continue to carry out intelligence work and take other measures to prevent the importation of articles that may disturb the peace of society or that are imported irregularly through false declarations or hidden in consolidated shipments.
