Guayaquil (Ecuador). — The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, decreed a new state of exception in nine provinces and three municipalities of the country due to the increase in violence and the expansion of organized crime.
The decree indicates that recent technical reports show that the levels of violence are not only maintained, but have intensified and spread to more territories, which has motivated the adoption of this measure under the cause of serious internal commotion.
The state of exception will last for 60 days and will be applied in the provinces of Guayas, Manabí, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, El Oro, Pichincha, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo and Sucumbíos, as well as in the municipalities of La Maná, in Cotopaxi, and Las Naves and Echeandía, in the province of Bolívar.
During this period, the rights to the inviolability of the home and correspondence will be suspended, with the aim of facilitating control, search, and investigation tasks by the security forces to confront criminal organizations.
The measure broadens and reinforces states of exception already in force since November in some of these territories, where high-impact violent events have been recorded.
