Santo Domingo.- The former president of the Republic and president of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Danilo Medina, led a meeting with the presidential candidates of that political organization, with the aim of defining the general aspects and the protocol that will regulate the work of the presidential candidates. The aspirants and members of the Political Committee, Francisco Domínguez Brito, Francisco Javier García, Abel Martínez and Charlie Mariotti, participated in the meeting; the PLD’s general secretary, Johnny Pujols, and the PLD’s Presidential Aspirants Protocol Commission, made up of Robert de la Cruz, Rubén Jiménez Bichara, Margarita Pimentel and Andrés Navarro.

“The work protocol that will govern the internal competition was agreed upon, ensuring a democratic, transparent, and coherent process with the Boschist values of the PLD, reinforcing party discipline and the fraternal coexistence that characterize the party,” the commission stated in its official statement.

In the two-and-a-half-hour session, it was agreed to convene the Central Committee at the beginning of 2026, prior to a meeting of the Political Committee, to validate the agreed-upon progress.

The presidential hopefuls agreed to make the necessary efforts to select a single presidential candidate in the last quarter of next year, with others who so decide being able to join this process as candidates.

“The PLD reiterates its commitment to unity and to the defense of the Dominican people, and assumes this stage as a decisive step in the task of returning to the country a serious, capable government deeply committed to national dignity,” the document concludes.
