Caracas.- The death toll from the double earthquake of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that occurred a month ago in the northern area of Venezuela rose this Friday to 5,546, after authorities added 148 deaths, reported the president of the National Assembly (AN, Parliament), Jorge Rodríguez.
Meanwhile, the number of injured remains at 16,740, according to the deputy, who published the balance on his Telegram account.
He, who is also the brother of the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, indicated that 17,907 people lost their homes.
At the moment, there are 23,811 people in 107 transitional camps, 476 more than on Wednesday, while 128,324 families have been assisted by the authorities.
Death toll from earthquakes in Venezuela
In addition, this disaster left some 856 buildings affected and 190 collapsed, according to the official report, which also records 1,500 aftershocks since the double earthquake on June 24.
On Monday, more than 240 families received the first homes delivered by the Government to those affected by the earthquakes, in a ceremony led by Delcy Rodríguez along with her brother at the Fuerte Tiuna military complex in Caracas.

This Friday, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) reported that it has assisted more than 100,000 people affected by the double earthquake a month ago in Venezuela and said that with adequate funding it hopes to reach half a million in the next two months.

The organization explained, in a press release, that in the first 72 hours after the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes, it launched a series of assessments in more than eight communities across seven states of the South American country.

The WFP said it has adapted its response to the circumstances of each family with hot meals for people in shelters and community kitchens, ready-to-eat rations that require no preparation for those still on the move, waiting for news of their loved ones, or taking shelter where they feel safe.
Likewise, they have delivered food baskets to households whose livelihoods were affected but who are still able to cook, and prepaid electronic vouchers where markets are functioning, allowing families to prioritize their most urgent needs.
The organization stated that it needs 80 million dollars to sustain and expand its response in Venezuela and assist more than 500,000 people in the next two months.
Delcy Rodríguez claims she is working on a “master plan” for the reconstruction of Venezuela
The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, assured this Friday that her Government is working on a “master plan” for the reconstruction of Venezuela, as one month has passed since the double earthquake of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that has left more than 5,500 dead.
“You know that we are working on a master plan for Venezuela, for La Guaira (…) that allows for comprehensive recovery, in infrastructure, in housing,” noted the leader during a prayer chain from La Guaira, the state most affected by the earthquakes, broadcast by the state channel VTV.
Likewise, he said that the reconstruction must also go through the human side, in education and work, while asking Venezuelans not to lose faith.
According to the official report this Friday, following the double earthquake a month ago that affected the northern region of Venezuela, 5,546 people have died, 16,740 were injured, and nearly 18,000 lost their homes.
